Apple has been testing a “car key” app for its iOS 10 operating system, which allows users to unlock their cars without touching the keypad.
Google, which has been working on a similar app, has been focusing on making the feature available on Android devices.
CarKey’s app is set to debut in the first quarter of next year, with Google launching the service in the US and Australia this month.
The company has been making some major updates to its existing mobile apps for the last few months, including adding the ability to sync car information from other devices.
Apple has also been working with Google on a “home assistant” app, which would allow people to summon an Apple Watch from the car’s home screen, and the ability for users to remotely lock a car door.
